Carolyn Oberst is a visual artist whose colorful work is influenced by the different, yet interconnected worlds around her. Whether it is the current, contemporary world, the world she creates for herself in her studio, or her internal world of dreams, intuitions, and memory, these aspects infuse her work. She’s an interdisciplinary artist, working across painting, drawing, mixed media, wood relief, and video animation. Currently, her focus has returned to the directness of oil paint on canvas. Drawing is an important part of her process, her image making always begins with drawing.

Oberst currently lives and work in NYC. Originally from Philadelphia, she settled in NYC after living in London, Southern Spain and Morocco, drawing and gathering influences along the way. She studied drawing at the Art Students League under Marshall Glasier on an Instructor’s Special Scholarship and her painting is self-taught. Her work has been exhibited in solo and group shows in NYC and other US cities. Internationally, she’s had a two person show in Seoul, S. Korea and an artists’ residency in Oaxaca, Mexico.  Her work is held in private and corporate collections.
